We transfer every tape to a to  a digital H.264 MP4 video file which is then transferred to a USB thumb drive (purchased separately).

*Please note: We do not make DVD’s or transfer your videos to DVD as the format is becoming obsolete and the discs can only hold 4.7GB of data, or about 2 hours of video.

S-VHS, or Super VHS, is an enhanced version of the original VHS tape format that was introduced by JVC in 1987. S-VHS was designed to improve the video quality of standard VHS tapes by increasing the number of horizontal lines used to record the image.

While a standard VHS tape recorded at 240 lines of resolution, S-VHS tapes recorded at 400 lines of resolution, resulting in a sharper and more detailed image. S-VHS also included improvements to the tape formulation and recording head design, resulting in better color reproduction and a more stable image.

S-VHS was backward-compatible with standard VHS equipment, meaning that S-VHS tapes could be played in a standard VHS VCR, but the enhanced resolution would not be visible on those devices. However, to take full advantage of the improved image quality, a specialized S-VHS VCR was required for playback and recording.

While S-VHS was successful in professional video production and broadcasting, it did not achieve the same level of popularity in the consumer market as the original VHS format. This was due in part to the higher cost of S-VHS equipment and tapes, as well as the introduction of new digital video formats like DVD and MiniDV.

The Importance Of S-VHS Tape Transfer To Preserve Your Memories

Transferring S-VHS  (Super VHS) tapes to digital format is important for a few reasons:

1. Preservation: The most important reason to transfer your videos is to prevent the total loss of the tape due to aging of the media. The S-VHS tape format is a fragile medium and is deteriorating over time. Video Conservation can transfer your your S-VHS tapes to digital format & ensure that the content is preserved for future generations.

2. Convenience: S-VHS tapes are not as convenient to use as digital files. They are bulky, take up a lot of space & require a working, cleaned & calibrated VCR player as well as adapter cables to connect to today’s modern HDMI capable TV’s. Digital files, on the other hand, can be easily stored on a computer or external hard drive and can be played on a variety of devices or shared easily online with friends & family.

3. Editing: Once your content is in digital format, it can be easily edited using a variety of readily available software to trim the footage or add music & special effects. This was previously impossible for your average consumer to accomplish without expensive specialized equipment.

Our S-VHS tape transfer to digital services are great way to preserve, access, and share your precious memories.
